Long Xuyen, MekongDelta Vietnam

Long Xuyen is the capital of An Giang was once a strong-hold of Hoa Hao Sect, founded in 1939. The town is moderately prosperous. There are a few sights around town, but for travellers its value is mainly as a transit point with good food, accomadation and a foreign exchange bank. The market along the riverside is colourful and lively.

An Giang Museum

The museum is a proud showcase of An Giang province, featuring photographs and the personal effects of former president Ton Duc Thang. There are also some artefacts from the Oc Eo site near Rach Gia and displays detailing the history of this region from the 1930s to the present day.

Cho Moi Floating Market

The Cho Moi district, across the river from Long Xuyen town, is known for its rich groves of banana, durian, guava, jackfruit, longan, mango, mangosteen and plum. The market is truly the highlight of the visit to Long Xuyen.
